Like does Deity achieve its affect by hurting the player or just by giving the AI big bonuses and freebies? Difficulty levels do not modify human player research / build / other times. AI just gets bonuses. Of course there are things difficulty level changes for human too.. But many of these are on the low end of the scale basically bonuses at lowest difficulty levels. And now that I actually decided to read the handicap infos.. It affects basically all maintenance and upkeep figures and research. I thought research time was affected by map size and game speed only not by difficulty level. In maintenance there are many figures pretty much all of them affected by difficulty level. There's no player production modifier at all in the handicap file. There are modifiers for AI and it does go to penalty side on low levels (eg unit training cost is 160% at Settler). The difficulty levels work by changing the AI bonuses; they research and build much slower than the human player at low levels and much faster at high levels. The production costs for human players do not vary with difficulty level (very obviously). Research costs do increase slightly with difficulty level so it will take slightly longer for the human player at high levels. The AI has the same base research costs as the human player though and the handicap modifier is applied to that. The gradual increase in base research costs is an attempt to keep the tech pace under control at high levels. __________________"The opposite of the religious fanatic is not the fanatical atheist but the gentle cynic who cares not whether there is a god or not." - Eric Hoffer. Want to learn the true power of corporations in BtS? - Putting aside the XML files there is also the fact that as the AI is advancing quicker you can also trade for those techs you don't have sooner. In other words the faster they get the faster you get if you have techs to trade them. > > > Do difficulty levels affect human production/research or just give the AI bonuses?
